In Japanese tea culture, it’s not only about what you drink, but how. Tea is a way to tune into the day, calm the mind, and find balance between energy and stillness. The combination of kukicha and matcha is one of the most gentle and harmonious ways to begin the morning.

What Is Kukicha?

Kukicha is a Japanese green tea made from the stems and veins of the tea plant, rather than the leaves. Because of this, it naturally contains less caffeine and offers a soft, clean taste.

In Japan, kukicha is often enjoyed:

  • in the morning

  • throughout the day

  • or alongside meals

It is a tea for everyday balance — supportive, grounding, and never overwhelming. Kukicha’s flavor is light and smooth, with subtle nutty notes and natural umami.

Why Kukicha with Matcha?

Matcha brings:

  • clean, natural energy

  • mental clarity

  • gentle focus

Kukicha, in turn:

  • softens matcha’s intensity

  • creates a steady, even energy

  • keeps the nervous system calm

Together, they offer a smooth, balanced start without sharp peaks or crashes — ideal for the morning or early part of the day.

The Art of Brewing Kukicha–Matcha

Brewing is part of the ritual. Allow yourself a few quiet minutes of presence. Here’s how to create this calming experience:

1. Water Temperature

The optimal water temperature is 50–60°C (122–140°F). The maximum temperature is 80°C (176°F). Boiling water is not suitable — it makes the tea bitter, flat, and empty in taste.

2. Warm the Teapot

Preheat the teapot by rinsing it with hot water. This helps the tea open gently and evenly.

3. Measure the Tea

Use 1 g of tea per 100 ml of water. For a 400 ml teapot, use 4 g (about 2 teaspoons).

4. Awaken the Aroma

Gently shake the tea inside the warm teapot. Pause. Inhale the aroma of the warmed leaves.

5. Steep Gently

Pour the water over the tea. Steep for 3–5 minutes, without rushing.

6. Serve

Pour into cups, keeping the calm rhythm of the moment.

7. Rebrew

Kukicha–Matcha can be brewed 2–3 times. You can also gradually add hot water to the remaining infusion, allowing the tea to continue unfolding.

A Morning to Begin With

In Japanese tradition, tea is not a stimulant — it is support. Kukicha–Matcha doesn’t force you awake. It allows you to arrive gently.

A cup. Warmth. A few slow sips — and the day begins in balance.

Creating Your Mindful Ritual

Incorporating this tea into your daily routine can transform your mornings. Each sip becomes a moment of mindfulness. As you enjoy your cup, take a moment to reflect. What are you grateful for today?

The Benefits of Mindfulness

Practicing mindfulness while enjoying your tea can enhance your overall well-being. It helps you stay present and appreciate the small moments. This gentle practice can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Conclusion

Kukicha and matcha together create a serene experience. They invite you to slow down and savor the moment. Embrace this gentle ritual, and let it guide you to a place of calm and balance.

Remember, it’s not just about the tea; it’s about the experience. Enjoy your journey with each cup, and let it bring you peace throughout your day.
